KAAKIE OVER BANDANA (SHATTA WALE) AND THE REASONS FOR IT ........

Reggae: Is a style of popular music with strong accented subsidiary beat, originating in Jamaica. It evolved in the late 1960’s from Ska and rock steady. Many read different meaning into reggae music, which makes followers of reggae sometimes very uncomfortable. Reggae music a slow conscious music which sends truetalk messages to its listeners to keep them thinking. Reggae music touches on topics such as social injustice, repatriation and the rastafari movement.
On the other hand, Dancehall is a genre of Jamaican popular music that originated in the 1970’s, dancehall was initially more of a sparse version of reggae than the roots style which dominated much of the 1970’s. Dancehall unlike reggae music, took the reggae themes of social injustice, repatriation and the Rastafari movement and replaced it with lyrics about dancing, money, violence and sexuality.

Don Carlos , Al Campbell and Triston Palmer emerged as major dancehall stars ,while other well established names such as Gregory Isaac and Bunny Wailer successfully adapted fast to the dancehall genre. Yellowman and Eek – a – Mouse refused violence and preached humor.

 Reggae genre and dancehall have both come a long way as they’ve equally spread into every corner and household of the world. Dancehall took to its heels and got to the shores of Ghana in the early 2000’s with Sonnie Balli emerging as the Godfather of Ghanaian dancehall music. Samini, Terry Bonchaka, Yoki – Dogi, Bandana and many others came on board and stole the hearts of many Ghanaians with their tunes. Currently, artiste such as Mugees of R2Bees, Stone Bwoy, Kaakie, Jupitar, Sticky and Ras Kay are making history in Ghana’s dancehall.

                                                                                                                                Sonnie Balli

  Dancehall in Ghana got much dirty after the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA2013) ,when Kaakie on the night, took home the best reggae/dancehall song of the year which she contended with the likes of ; Blakk Rasta – Our Africa , Samini ft WizKid – Time Bomb , Bandana – Shatta City , Knii Lante – House of Pain , Eazzy ft Jupitar – Go Go Wind , Kaakie – Toffee Pon Tongue
Bandana (shattawale) however, could not contain his anger over the decision of awarding Kaakie over him, he then proceeded to vent his frustrations and anger on Kaakie, who on the night went home smiling. Bandana undoubtedly believed he was better than any other artiste nominated for the reggae/dancehall category. Bandana, unprofessionally followed his anger and begun to rain insults on Kaakie, Chatter House etc. He was spotted destroying things and shouting “Ghana is cheating me “and was approached by some security personnel’s to calm him down but all could not avail. He was detained for some time and was escorted out of the premises. Earlier that day on the red carpet, Bandana was asked about the awards and he related to it positively and said was cool if he didn’t take home that award. He later forgot his statement he made earlier about being cool and jumped on twitter and tweeted ill-mannered messages geared towards Kaakie, Chatter House and fans who weren’t in support of his conduct, and he tweeted;

Bandana (shatta wale)
He later released a new single the next morning tittle “Letter to Chatter House” and in the song, made it clear he needed no award in Ghana. After thorough investigation into the matter, it appears both Chatter House and Bandana have their pink sheets to prove their case. It is understood that, before a track wins an award, the board takes into consideration the popularity of the track and not the pedigree of the artiste. Kaakie’s song "Toffe Pon Tongue" was considered more popular than Bandana’s "Shatta City" and also had more airtime play than shatta city which makes Toffee Pon Tongue more eligible than any other track nominated for the reggae/dancehall category.

                                                                        Kaakie
 Despite Bandana’s unprofessional behaviour, BigXgh.com, Ghana music industry and Chatter House are to be blamed for such act.
Ghana Music Industry and Chatter House both failed the city when they brought reggae and dancehall under one umbrella just to cut down cost for their own unprecedented desire. Reggae as a genre features its own artiste such as Blakk Rasta , Black Prophet, Iwan etc and dancehall also casts artiste such as Sonni Balli , Samini , Bandana , Mugees , Stone Bwouy , Jupitar , Kaakie and many others serving dancehall to the fullest. Merging the two genre’s was Ghana Music Industry biggest mistake from the past and they failed to correct it but now the flood gates are opened for the rain, there is hope that they will correct such mistakes.
BigXgh.com on the other hand also failed Bandana and Ghana as a whole when they uploaded the picture below, believed to be the voting polls and results for the reggae/dancehall song of the year which Bandana used as evidence (pink sheet) to back his claim.

WHO IS AT FAULT......GHANA MUSIC INDUSTRY, CHATTER HOUSE , BIGXGH.COM OR BANDANA (SHATTA WALE) ????
